Veils Vancouver

The Veils have appointed a new team correspondent, for now…

“Hey, dudes who think it’d be cool to own a rock venue: It’s nice that you put the effort into making nice green velvet booths and a big impressive shiny bar and stuff. But what’s kind of more important is that your PA works properly, and that you’ve got, you know…..monitors….and maybe more than one DI……not to be fussy or anything. Not to tell you how to do your job. Not to intrude on your glamorous dreams….” [READ MORE]

The Veils Recent Press - Portland Mercury, Impose Magazine, Three Imaginary Girls

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

“Not long after the ghost of Jeff Buckley floated down the mighty Mississippi River, people were anxious to crown a new alt-rock falsetto’d frontman to take his place. It’s just another cruel aspect of the music industry, refusing to let a deceased musician’s body grow cold before thrusting a newer/younger artist into their old boots…” Portland Mercury [READ MORE]

“Nux Vomica is an intelligently crafted album. The music is catchy, but not irritatingly so, and in conjunction with Andrews’s dour voice and words, it is an unexpectedly superb work of art. Perhaps my initial, superficial assessments were not entirely off-base; indeed, Finn Andrews is too sophisticated to be called a rock star. The man is a musician. One might even call him, if you can stand the dramatic pretenses, an artist…” Impose Magazine [READ MORE]

“It might seem a little odd to start a review of the new Veils album with, well, a discussion of the Red Sox, but here we are…” Three Imaginary Girls [READ MORE]

Midlake in Billboard Biz

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

On the heels of Midlake’s fall tour announcement, Billboard has this to say.

What we have to say (quite proudly)…Recently nominated for two MOjO Awards, for best album and for MOjO Breakthrough Act, the praise for Midlake and their sophomore release ‘The Trials of Van Occupanther’ keep coming in. Midlake has also recorded a track with The Chemical Brothers called “The Pills Won’t Help You Now” which appears on the Chem’s forthcoming album.

Starting off the summer of ‘07 in grand fashion, Midlake will be performing outdoors in NYC’s Battery Park for a free July 4th show along with The New Pornographers before night descends and the fireworks heading off for a long run of UK and European festival dates. Once back in the states the band will begin a tour here going from September into Oct. with a stop at the Austin City Limits Festival.

Fabric.34 Ellen Alien Mix Out Now

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Fabric Ellen Alien
Artist: Ellen Alien
Album: Fabric.34 [LISTEN]
Label: Fabric London
Street Date: June 19th, 2007
Formats: CD, mp3
Purchase: Amazon | Insound

Whether she’s producing music that challenges the electronic world, or adhering to her globe-encompassing Djing schedule, or managing the phenomenal Bpitch Control, or designing for her unique new fashion label – Ellen Allien, a veritable force to be reckoned with, is artistically infinite. Then how lucky we should be for her latest project – an addition to the ever-growing Fabric mix-series, Fabric 34, available now.

In her own words:
“I wanted to do an analogue mix, by hand. I used my favourite records of last year and the newest ones. I like analogue! And I like to hear how one has to manipulate the mix until it’s tight. I like the mix because to me it’s the ideal club mix that I personally would like to hear in a club.”

What press has said:
“Further cements the series’s rep for deep and heady electro-tech sounds that aim for the heart as much as the feet” - Time Out New York

“The textures on this disc are incredible!” - Remix
