Del The Funky Homosapien - “Workin’ It” [WATCH @ MTVU]

Del Workin It

Meanwhile, PaperThinWalls caught up with Del recently and asked him to tell us a story… it went a little something like this, “Now I had actually went there hella lit. I mean super-duper lit. Hella fuckin’ lit. Like I had maybe two grams of shrooms or something like that, drank hella liquor, smoked hella bomb. So I get up in there, I’m lit, everybody else there is lit. But they’re already rocking out there in the studio. So I come in, track is already going on. So I meet the Captain, the Captain gives me two Valiums. So I end up poppin’ them too. So now I’m hella lit, dude. And I’m smoking weed in there. I’m hella high. I didn’t have lyrics with me yet. I heard ’em rockin’ out, got juiced, sat there, wrote the lyrics. Hopped in the booth, kicked the lyrics a few times, laid ’em. They was going crazy and shit. Loving it…” [READ MORE]

British Sea Power Have Arrived, Waving Flags & All

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Cali’s gettin rocked harder than Pearl Harbor by British Sea Power this week!

British Sea Power

British Sea Power

San Diego Citybeat, at the first stop on BSP’s US romp, caught up with Yan for a phoner… “Reflecting on the themes of Rock Music, Wilkinson said, “We’re trying to think that rock music should interact with the world outside of the music world—the real world,” he laughed, “foreign countries or stories about geography or ecology or just funny, stupid stories. But it should kind of reach outside your own small personal sphere a little bit and make some effort to interact.” - San Diego Citybeat [READ MORE]

The Guardian invites the young Brit rock elite to elaborate on their respective definitions of what is British in music… Yan picks Joe Meek’s “I Hear A New World”, and says, “… This is from the album of the same name that he made for shops to test new stereo equipment. It’s a concept record, a voyage around an imaginary galaxy, somewhere between pop and strangeness. The modern equivalent would be something like Plone on Warp. Meek invented a lot of recording techniques and there’s really nothing quite like him today…” - Yan @ Guardian UK [READ MORE]

The stellar reviews continue to pour in…!

“The band’s third and possibly best full-length leans in a bit harder than usual, and dazzles throughout…” - Paste Magazine

“A vivid, nostalgic traipse into what good rock bands ought to sound like…” - Alternative Press

“This hopeful conclusion to “Do You Like Rock Music?” can be seen as an allegory for the rock renaissance that many American music lovers still eagerly await. There is clearly still hope for a revitalization of the genre, but only if albums like this one start to garner the attention they merit…” - Harvard Crimson [READ MORE]

“Listening is like riding a beast; BSP’s unvarnished, delightfully meandering anthems sound larger than life. Bring on foliage and military uniforms, lads, we’re prepared to salute…” - LA Times - Buzz Bands [READ MORE]

“For all the rhetoric surrounding these pomped-up epic pursuits, away from Arcade Fire’s entrenched inwardness, there’s an underlying sense of egalitarian spirit and warped optimism to British Sea Power’s raucous gambol, inviting you in on the gently demented proceedings rather than leaving you a cold onlooker. Do you like rock music? That doesn’t matter. Little Richard or Richard Littlejohn? It’s all just a front, all just an invite into Sea Power’s crowded nest…” - Kingblind [READ MORE]

“Not only could DYLRM be called a return to form, British Sea Power have produced an album with the kind of majesty and skill that shouldn’t be allowed to disappear solely into the hands of their cult…” - Radar Online [READ MORE]

“Lost in the nautical swell of the band’s powerful kaleidoscope of sound, it’s abundantly clear that, no matter the intent of the question, the answer is yes, yes, a thousand times, yes.” - Crawdaddy [READ MORE]
