Devendra Banhart’s friend and collaborator Spleen (B.B.E. Music) - Live in NYC

Wednesday, June 7th, 2006

Difficult to categorize, Spleen’s music is a cosmic gumbo of soul, hip hop, funk, folk and blues. A native of Paris he brings his brilliant live show to Joe’s Pub for a rare NYC appearance. Spleen is truly an original artist, who employs theatre in his musical performances. Most American listeners probably first heard his work on CocoRosie’s critically-acclaimed Noah’s Ark album (Touch & Go Records).

Spleen also curated a compilation called the Black and White Skins consisiting of his musical friends which include amongst many Devendra Banhart, CocoRosie, and Antony and The Johnsons. Here is a crazy clip of Devendra performing a Lauryn Hill song, with Spleen singing alongside (he’s the one in the silver mask!)

Spleen’s original music can be heard on his debut album “She Was a Girl”; and here’s a great track to give you a taste of what he’s all about:
