Thursday, July 17th, 2008

Dandy Warhols

In conjunction with Music Monitor Network, the Alliance of Independent Music Stores, and the Coalition of Independent Music stores, World’s Fair Label Group, on behalf of the Dandy Warhols, will be giving away an exclusive EP, Earth to the Remix EP Vol. 1. With remixes by each of the Dandy Warhols themselves, the EP not only introduces material from the their upcoming album, …Earth To The Dandy Warhols… (out August 19th on the band’s very own Beat The World Records), it also shows off their musical versatility. The remixes move from spacey dub to edgy electronica but are never forced or insincere: the spirit and energy of the original song is always maintained, it’s only the immediate presentation that’s changed.

Starting on July 19th and running through street date, fans can go to one of 400 stores nationwide — including Amoeba, Virgin Megastore and Newbury Comics –and pick up the EP themselves at absolutely no cost. For a complete list of participating stores, please go to recordstoreday.com.

Earth to the Remix EP Vol. 1 Track Listing:
1. Come the Fuck On – A Peter Holmstrom/ Jeremy Sherrer Remix
2. THE MONSTER MISH – A Taylor-Taylor / Jacob Portrait Remix
3. Welcome to the Skin-up Remix – Fathead / Jeremy Sherrer

Brand New Dandy Warhols Track!

Monday, June 30th, 2008

The Dandy Warhols’ new album, Earth To The Dandy Warhols, is coming out fewer than two months from now, and to celebrate the band, in collaboration with AOL Spinner, has released another track, “The Legend of the Last of the Outlaw Truckers aka The Ballad of Sheriff Shorty.”

Dandy Warhols

Here’s what Spinner had to say:

“It’s 2008, but it sure sounds like ’90s all over again with records dropping from the Lemonheads, Matthew Sweet and the Dandy Warhols in the coming months. Portland’s psychedelic rock quartet are back in full swing with ‘Earth to Dandy Warhols,’ the bands sixth album. The record will surface on August 19, but you get a taste of the band’s updated and untamed eclectic sound on ‘The Legend of the Last of the Outlaw Truckers aka The Ballad of Sheriff Shorty.’”

You yourself can download this new track right here.

The Dandys, of course, also have a North American fall tour lined up, starting at the home of Prince and ending in their very own hometown.

Dandy Warhols Announce Fall North American Tour

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

With their brand-new album, Earth To The Dandy Warhols, hitting stores in North America on August 19, the Dandy Warhols are bringing their extraordinary live show to fans across the US and Canada. Pacific-Northwesterners are fortunate enough to be able to see the band during their exclusive June shows, but everyone else will have the chance come early fall, with stops in Denver, New York, Toronto, Atlanta, Los Angeles and pretty much everywhere in between. The band will be supported by LA pysch-rockers Darker My Love for most of the fall tour, as well as their newly-signed labelmates the Upsidedown on all dates.

Dandy WarholsThe Dandy Warhols have already established themselves as musical icons with their songs “Bohemian Like You” and “Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth,” but Earth To The Dandy Warhols, their sixth full-length and first of many on their own label, Beat the World Records, raises them to a new platform. This is classic Dandys, of course, and songs like “Talk Radio” and “Mission Control” continue to reaffirm the band’s position in alternative rock annals, but the album also sees the band moving into repertoire-broadening territory, from the tongue-and-cheek and very Dandy-esque take on outlaw country, “The Legend of the Last of the Outlaw Truckers AKA The Ballad of Sheriff Shorty,” to “Love Song,” which features Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler and the Heartbreakers’ Mike Campbell, and of course, the opener “The World Come On,” which was made available for download on May 5, courtesy of a Stereogum premiere.

Although tickets officially go on sale June 21, members of the Dandys new fan-club subscription service will be able to buy tickets during a special pre-sale starting June 17. Pre-sale for the general public begins June 19 through the band’s website.

Also of note to those in The Dandy Warhols’ home base, the Portland show, initially planned for June 21 at the Roseland Theater, has been rescheduled for October 5 (same venue). The band’s European tour kicks off at the top of July, and due to unforeseen circumstances with gear routing, the equipment must ship out of Seattle on June 21. All tickets purchased will be honored at the October 5 show. Refunds are available at point of purchase for those who cannot attend the rescheduled show.

In other Dandys news, Courtney recently did an interview for Wired.com’s Listening Post, where he talks about the new record, among other things. Here’s a clip:

LP: So you’re not in search of a new sound, you just have a lot of toys in the studio.

CTT: A lot of both. Monkeys like “new” and “familiar” in some kind of unquantifiable proportions. I’m pretty sure this is what led to us making records that sound different from each other. That and the fact that it seems to be about three years between albums.

LP: Talk about the digital release. How has the response been?

CTT: Our digital subscription package with first download of the album turned out to be a great idea, since we own our studio we can produce a lot of music. I feel that digital subscription is the obvious way of the future. If the old-school ASCAP and BMI people had been on the ball, they could have become the new superpowers of music by creating monthly subscription sites in the web’s early days. They snoozed.

Earth To The Dandy Warhols out August 19th!

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Dandy WarholsThe Dandy Warhols are back and ushering in a rockin’ return to form with their sixth LP, Earth To The Dandy Warhols, the band’s debut album as masters of their own destiny. Pulling together the diverse sounds and influences that have always characterized their music, it’s quintessential Dandys, full of the same dry vigor that’s made them world famous. Earth To The Dandy Warhols is set for release on August 19, 2008 via The Dandy Warhols’ newly minted Beat The World Records.

From the Some Girls-era Rolling Stones-meets-Talking Heads “Welcome To The Third World,” to the campy “Mis Amigos,” to the psychedelic rock of “Beast of Saints,” Earth To The Dandy Warhols is pleasure of a ride that allows you to fully settle into it while still keeping you on your toes. The band reached out to their friends, too, inviting Dire Strait’s Mark Knopfler and the Heartbreakers’ guitarist Mike Campbell to join in on the rollicking “Love Song.” “The Legend Of The Last Of The Outlaw Truckers AKA The Ballad Of Sheriff Shorty,” is a 21st century take on outlaw country that has Courtney Taylor-Taylor growling melodically over dusty guitar riffs. Earth to the Dandy Warhols serves as a stunning platform into a new era of The Dandy Warhols’ career, and places the band firmly in the ranks of rock’s elite class.

The Dandys treated fans to the party-starting opener “The World Come On” on May 5th, in conjunction with the re-launch of their website, through which fans also can get an early jump on the album through a digital subscription service (launched May 19th).

The Dandy Warhols kick off their 2008 touring extravaganza with a Pacific Northwest run in June, followed by European Festival dates in July, and a fall North American tour.

Dandy Warhols & Beat The World Records Join World’s Fair Label Group

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Dandy WarholsThe Dandy Warhols have partnered with World’s Fair Group to launch their own label, Beat the World, Billboard has learned. A new album is expected out this year… “We’ve been functioning on our own as a band for a long time,” (guitarist Peter) Holmstrom continues. “With World’s Fair, they can provide all the business stuff that we need without any of the nonsense of a major. It’s great, although it’s a little scary, because if we screw this up, we have no one to blame but ourselves….” - Billboard [READ MORE]
